Key missions

You will have the opportunity to join Dietsmann Trainers team at UPIK, supporting TotalEnergies Exploration and Production company in Uganda for the Tilenga project.

As a Trainer, you will be responsible to provide, execute trade training program in your fied of competencies, giving lectures and practical training to the trainees. Design, develop, deliver and revise technical and safety trainings modules and courses.  

The position are open for Mechanical, Instrumentation, Electrical and Operation Training

Activities :

  • HSE:

✓ Participate in the Health, Safety and Environment program to achieve COMPANY’ targeted standards and objectives

✓ Assists in safety training and ensure that the technicians / trainees adhere to HSE policies and procedures by regularly using its own HSE experience and Project REX in line with COMPANY & CONTRACTOR policies

✓ Share previous site HSE experience

✓ Prepare and communicate on specific HSE modules to be developed in each of the courses (theoretical and practical).

✓ Updates technicians / trainees about latest HSE Rules & Regulations

✓ Make the HSE philosophy matters as part of their Training Courses developing specific examples related to Mechanical Maintenance Activities including those in the Mechanical workshop

✓ Be aware and respectful of Cyber security COMPANY protocols if using COMPANY PCs / Industrial System / connected to COMPANY network

  • Organization and management skills:

✓ Execute the trade training program at UPIK, giving lectures and practical training to the trainers

✓ Assist in the training and development of UPIK staff for the Mechanical Maintenance related topics

✓ Liaise with COMPANY on program requirements

✓ Provide coaching to Mechanical team Personnel in the topics covered by technical training

✓ Ensure training program meets all Parties expectation

✓ Give practical examples and experiences to Personnel during classes at UPIK and on Site for all trade topics in your field of competencies

✓ Early identification of high potential Personnel or Personnel that may not complete or attain the minimum level of the Technical Training Program among the Mechanical Maintenance team

✓ Coordinates the training process of the Mechanical section personnel to ensure a highly competent maintenance team for the plant

✓ Designs, develops, delivers and revises technical and safety training modules and courses that provide for both theoretical and on-the-job and safety training. Manages course material (print out, distribution...)

✓ Guide the trainee how to determine faults skilfully and apply appropriate method of repair and maintenance

✓ Provides analysis and determines training needs and gaps for individuals and groups, and makes recommendations for solutions to bridge the gaps, eventually providing dedicated class to single or sub-group of trainees

✓ Assesses trainees’ competency requirements, certifies personnel as per level of competency, Identify staff training needs, develop training plan and ensure implementation

✓ Carryout competency assessment and verification, monitor and follow up progress and maintain accurate record of their progress, attendance and soft skills demonstration (class behaviour, communication, team work, adaptability, punctuality…)

✓ Assists in development of standard operating procedures, policy and practice regard training & development

✓ Provide feedback to training section

✓ Provide training for the “Train the Trainer” program at UPIK

✓ Assists with monitoring and controlling training budgets whenever needed

✓ Attend coordination meeting and briefing for the betterment of the training and assessment activities


Candidate profile

The holder of this position must have the following qualifications:

✓ Higher Diploma (HND), or equivalent,

✓ Minimum 5 years as Discipline Supervisor in the Petrochemical / Oil & Gas industry or Energy sector

✓ Minimum 1 to 2 years’ experience as a Trainer / Assessor with emphasis on On-Job-Training (OJT) inclusive of Competence Assessment performance / equivalent to confirmed Assessor

✓ Knowledgeable in workplace learning and or competence-based training and assessment would be a distinct advantage.

✓ Certificate of Assessor and Verifier (OPITO, SQA or equivalent)

✓ Trade test Certificate in one of the technical disciplines.

✓ Excellent communication, both written and oral, and presentation skills.

✓ Diplomatic and positive attitude and naturally adapting its speech to its interlocutor personality

✓ Ability to handle multiple priorities and complete tasks/projects in accordance with stated deadlines.

✓ A natural, flexible authority is essential.

✓ Capacity to explain complex theory on a simple by using analogia.

✓ Natural ability and willing to teach

✓ Aptitude to share acquired know how, methodology and pedagogy with other Trainers

✓ Professionalism in appearance and attitude is a must.

✓ Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills.

✓ Strong PC skills to include proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
