Key missions

The Instrument Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all instrumentation systems on offshore facilities. This role ensures that all control systems, safety systems, and measurement instruments operate reliably and in compliance with industry standards, supporting continuous production and plant safety. The Instrument Supervisor leads a team of technicians, ensures adherence to safety protocols, and coordinates with other departments to optimize instrumentation performance.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. HSE Compliance:
    • Ensure that all instrumentation activities comply with HSE standards and policies.
    • Conduct HSE audits, report anomalies, and perform inspections related to instrumentation systems.
    • Promote a strong safety culture within the instrumentation team.
  2. Maintenance Leadership:
    • Lead the maintenance of all instrumentation and control systems, including calibration, testing, and troubleshooting.
    • Oversee the maintenance of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and other critical systems.
    • Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
  3. Technical Expertise:
    • Provide technical guidance on complex instrumentation issues and support root cause analysis for system failures.
    • Ensure the integrity and reliability of critical instruments such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement devices.
    • Supervise loop checks, function tests, and commissioning activities.
  4. Documentation and Compliance:
    • Review and update instrumentation schematics, loop diagrams, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
    • Ensure that all maintenance activities are properly documented and aligned with regulatory requirements and company standards.
    • Prepare detailed reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and equipment status.
  5. Coordination with Other Departments:
    • Collaborate with operations, mechanical, and electrical teams to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation systems.
    • Interface with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to procure spare parts and resolve technical issues.
  6. Training and Team Development:
    • Mentor and train instrumentation technicians to improve team competency and performance.
    • Identify training needs and implement skill development programs.
  7. Project Support:
    • Participate in instrumentation scope development for new projects and modifications.
    • Ensure that instrumentation-related projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  8. Optimization and Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities to improve instrumentation system performance and reliability.
    • Evaluate new technologies and recommend upgrades to enhance efficiency and safety.

Candidate profile

    • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
    • Equivalent technical certifications may be considered with significant experience.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in instrumentation maintenance, preferably in offshore oil & gas operations.
    • Proven experience with DCS, PLCs, SIS, and SCADA systems.
    • Expertise in instrumentation calibration, troubleshooting, and repair.
    • Strong knowledge of industry standards such as ISA and API.
    • Familiarity with Hazardous Area Classification and ATEX requirements.
    • Experience with control valve maintenance, gas detection systems, and fire & gas safety systems.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Leadership and team management abilities.
    • Working languages: English and Portuguese.
    • Ability to work in challenging environments and adapt to changing priorities.
    • Proficiency in using maintenance management systems and software tools.
